Mayor's Youth Advisory Council

The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is collaboration between the City of Clayton and the Clayton School District. The program is designed to encourage high school students to become active in the community by participating in local government. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for the youth of the City of Clayton to acquire a greater knowledge of and appreciation for the American political system through active participation in that system.

Very important to the MYAC are the adult advisers – one appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen and one by Clayton High School. The advisers serve in an advisory role in all MYAC activities.

The adviser appointed by the Mayor and Board of Alderman, Laura Stanton, is a Clayton resident. As a Davis Place trustee, she became familiar with the workings of City government. Laura has served as a mentor in youth journalism programs, and looks forward to helping students add their voice and energy to the governing process.

Debra Wiens, who has taught history in Clayton schools for 26 years, was selected to serve as the Clayton High School adviser. Debbie sponsored a youth advisory board in the late 1990s and hopes to draw a cross-section of the student body who have an intrinsic interest in local political participation.
