BackgroundOn June 12, 2007 the Board of Aldermen were presented with the final recommendations of the Clayton Parks & Recreation Master Plan. Planning Design Studio was selected to oversee the study, and their consultants were on hand to present details that included an overview of the specific recommendations of the plan and an outline of the implementation strategies available to the City.
The planning process began in April 2006 and included significant public input. The final recommendations are a "wish list" of projects and a vision of what our citizens say they want form the City's Parks and Recreation Department. THe sources of information included a community interest and opinion survey, citizen committee meetings, multiple public forums, citizen input, and meetings with City officials and staff. “This is very exciting,” said Mayor Linda Goldstein. “We commend the members of the Working Committee and Planning Design Studio on this impressive work.”
Consultant Andrew Franke explained that the colorfully-illustrated, 148-page document provides recommendations for areas for growth and improvement within the City’s park system.
This Plan provides strategies for meeting Clayton’s recreational needs through the year 2017. It recommends implementation of the ten year plan according to a prioritized and phased strategy, which will bring changes in the recreational opportunities of the City of Clayton and help to maintain the City’s exceptional quality of life. The Uncertainty of Ground State Fluctuations (for Clayton, Missouri) Or the Alice Aycock sculpture This sculpture was designed specifically for the City of Clayton to be placed in front of the Center of Clayton. The artist, Alice Aycock, is a professional sculpture whose work is in high-demand across the country. Her work can be found in a variety of public spaces such as the Guggenheim Museum, Kunstmuseum in Switzerland and Staatsgalerie in Germany. Aycock designed this piece to reflect the playful and lyrical nature of the building it stands in front of. The funding of the project was made possible through the people who live work and play in our community. The City of Clayton, Clayton Chamber of Commerce, Clayton Parks Foundation, other business of Clayton, and private donors all contributed funds to the project. We are very fortunate to have a multitude of public art in the Clayton community. Our rich cultural community has been enhanced by Alice Aycock’s piece, The Uncertainty of Ground State Fluctuations (for Clayton, Missouri).
